PCC through Passport Seva Kendra

Just wanted to share about the process/quick steps to get PCC from passport seva kendra:

-  Go to Passport Seva Portal   http://www.passportindia.gov.in/ and create your application.
-  Create appointment from manager appointment(you get appointment 2 days prior, suppose you want appointment on 04/12/2011 then try for looking for appointment on 02/12/2011, also official timings to schedule appointment are from morning 8.00 am but I got appointment day before in the evening around 6:30 pm)
- Reach your PSKat slightly before time and security will let you by your appointment time, get your documents verified(carry origianals) and get your token.
- Process is pretty organized here! after getting token go to counter A->B->C . Counter A is to get your Digital Photograph and finger prints( By TCS staff). Counter B is to just cross check everything by junior Govt Employee and Counter C is to submit your application to Govt employee
- You will be given acknowledgement from counter C and while leaving PSK.

Real fun starts now!
- your app goes to Police Commissioner's office from here and then they will forward it to your local police station, Local police station will call you and verify your documents and then they will send back the feedback to Police Commissioner's office.
-if you're lucky above process will be done in 3 days after submitting your app at PSK. After Police Commissioner's office your application goes to RPO(in our case it was at Koramangala, Bangalore).
-You can also check your application status online, if you see “PCC application is under review at Passport Seva Kendra.” that means your application is at RPO.
- Go to RPO Koramangala at around 8:30-9:00 am and get a inquiry token and they will sent you to counter no 5 at RPO. Show your PSK acknowledgement to the person sitting at counter 5 and he will upload your files(I am not sure why they don't do it without our telling, if you need your PCC fast then visit RPO and get this done!)
- That's all once you got your application uploaded by RPO you can directly go to PSK and collect your PCC! Simple ;)

I hope this helps you!

  1. Thanks a lot. I had been trying to get some details regarding this phase "PCC Application is under review at passport Seva kendra", as my PCC is held at this state for the past 4 days.

Will check at the RPO office tomorrow.

    Thanks Again.

  3. Are you from Bangalore?
Yes, you can go to RPO and get your file uploaded. Actully RPO has received your file but I am not sure why they wait to upload!! :( In my case I went to RPO and got it uploaded(took me around 3 hours total) and after that I immediately went to PSK to collect PCC and got it in 45 mins!!

  4. In my case I went to RPO chennai and they took around 3 hrs in different desks (enquiry counter, APO, delivery desk) and finally they gave the PCC.

No need to go back to PSK for collecting the same.

  5. In my case PSK is in Ambala (HRY) and RPO is in Chandigarh. And status of PCC is "PCC Application is under review at passport Seva kendra", so where should i go PSK or RPO?

    1. Hi there. Have you got your pcc yet? I have same circumstances.

  6. Here are the activities that happen in background for police clearance certificate, if your
You submit your application via passport seva kendra(PSK).

    1. PSK forwards the passport address city is not same as city from where you apply for pcc -
application to commissioner office close to rajbhavan, blore.
    2. Commissioner office personal forwards to local police station.
    3. Local police guys call up and ask us visit their station with documents.
    4. LOcal police guys fill up the form with details and send the police verification report via post to commissioner office.
    5. Commissioner office personal approves the report once it reaches them and forward the physical copy to regional passport office(rpo).
    6. rpo scans each of the application and approves them.
    7. once approved psk can provide the police clearance certificate.

The total time taken for this is 1 to 1.5 months approx.

You end up spending money for moving file from one place to another and you've to travel to each of the station/office to do it.In addition, You get humiliated in the process of talking to the arrogant govt guys... !

    Here is my experience -

step 2: Commissioner office guy held it with him for 2 weeks. He looked at my application only after i went there and he assigned it to the local police station. Had to bear charges and humiliation in addition to the delay !
step 3: there was no call from Local police station nor did they visit me, i went and asked them to process it. It was quick but had to pay some charges.
step 4: Filled up the form and they kept it somewhere as i had told them it is urgent and they missed to send it. I was sent back and forth between commissioner office and local police station. 1.5 weeks went by and then I redid my application again as it was lost somewhere.
step 5: visited the commissioner office again to speed up the application and now too had to bear some charges.
step 6: didnt visit rpo as the rpo does it automatically in 1-2 days time, incase psk asks us to do visit rpo then we have to visit them. This will happen if rpo misses to scan your report. you have to take a token and wait for a long time 2-3 hrs.
step 7 : this is easy, just collect it but will take 1.5 hrs time, psk is crowded and slow !!

Moral of the story : just go to hometown(your passport address) and get your pcc done, they will give it in a days time most probably !

  7. Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear your experience and I wish no one will face the similar situation again :)

My process was real smooth. My passport have non karnataka address and still I got my PCC within 10 days. I had to show them my bangalore's address proof and that's it :)

    1. Even I did a renewal without much hassle, the police verification happened the very next day and I got my passport within 4-5 days of application.
The Madivala police station did the processing fast and did not expect anything in return. I guess not all cases are the same an I was lucky, but I guess in Bangalore things are much sorted out when compared to some other cities in India

  9. Hi,
Thank you so much for the information. Me and my husband already went through all the steps excluding the last one. (Currently its showing "PCC application under review.. "). Here i would like to share my exp. with the readers. Actually we asked some agent to get this PCC done faster. However now we are realising that it's not required. At PSK things have improved a lot. Also you can directly go to the police station after submiting your application at PSK. We did all the steps by ourself and agent only helped us in processing our files faster at commissioner office. For that he is charging 8k. So i think if you have 1-2 weeks time with you dont go to any agent. They really waste your time and money and are highly unprofessional.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, You are right, Agent is not required if you have sufficient time.

Also, I would suggest you to visit RPO if you want your PCC fast :)

    Good Luck

    1. Hi Bobby, For tatkal ideally you should get your passport within 3-7 days. You will also get Email/SMS when RPO(Regional Passport Office) post your passport to your mailing address. Remember for Tatkal passport Police Verification is not priority and that can happen after the passport is issued. So ideally you should get passport first and then police verification happens.

I would suggest you to visit your RPO and ask them for the status of you applicaiton if more than 5 working days have passed since you applied. Sometime, they have received your police verificaiton but they have not uploaded it in your file and hence it gets delayed. Please visit RPO.

    1. I am really sorry to hear that you have not received your passport for 4 months.

Could you please tell me which city you have applied for passport? and what was the mode TATKAL/Normal?

I applied in Bangalore, and in Bangalore you can go to RPO and take a token and enquire with your File number and they will tell you exact status. However in your case when the status was changed to "in printing at RPO" that means that it was almost through and then they suddenly stopped your passport. We cannot predict the reason behind it so I would suggest you to visit your RPO and check with them with exact reason. I hope this helps!

  19. I applied for PCC for my visa application at PSK, RK Puram Delhi on 19/12/12 and checked my status online which said that the request has been sent to SP office here in Delhi for verification. Today, my status reads: 'PCC application is under review at Passport Seva Kendra'. I have read several posts on the internet and most of them have been horrifying. So, I was wondering what am I supposed to do now? My classes abroad begin by mid Jan and I need to apply for visa by next week.

    1. I would suggest you to immediately rush to your RPO(Regional Passport Office) with your PCC receipt(the receipt that you might have received while applying PCC). Let me explain you the overall process here:
      1. We submit PCC application at PSK
      2. PSK sends that to RPO
      3. RPO sends it to to Police Commissioner/Sp/Police station office
      4. Police sends the report back to RPO
      5. RPO uploads the results on system so that PSK can print it and officer at PSK will sign that document and give it to you.

By looking at your status line I can say that your application is stuck at step 5 and sometimes you have to go personally to RPO to request them to check the status. It's just a 1 minute job for them to update your PCC results but they generally take time of 2-3 days, so if you are in hurry and as holiday season is approaching, I would suggest you to visit RPO as soon as you can and check the status with them. (Check your local RPO timings and try to go there early if possible).

      Delete
    2. Thanks for that. When I checked for RPO on the internet, the address was that of PSK. So, I am a little confused where to go.

    3. oh ok, you can go to PSK then with your receipt and ask them the status and request them that you need it little urgent and they will guide you about next steps.

  21. Hi Sunil,
Thanks for sharing your experience and clearing questions! I appreciate it.

I'll have to apply for PCC for canadian immigration purpose.
Can you please share your thoughts on these:

    1) What is the title of the document you receive? (Does it say 'Police Clearance Certificate?' or 'Police Report'?

    2) What is the validity of the document? Is there a expiry date for written on the PCC? I'm concerned on this, if the immigration process takes longer (sometimes it takes ~6-9 months, worst case 9-12 months for immigration process) than the PCC's validity

    3) So if all the documents are put in place, the entire process to get the PCC would be ~2 weeks?

    Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Namachi,

    To answer your questions:
    1. Title of the document is " Police Clearance Certificate"
    2. There is no validity(expiry) mentioned on PCC, but Canadian embassy takes validity of 6 months(I guess!) from the date of issue. You can confirm this with someone.
    3. Yes you can take 2 weeks as a safe period but actually if everything goes fine you should get it within a week.

  23. Hi Sunil, I am fan of your post so far. Now my wife has a unique situaion. She is coming to US and needs PCC with her for interview. Currently online its showing as "pcc under review at passport seva kendra". The uniqueness is, we got married in march 2011 and its been only 10 months since she moved to my place in Gujarat(she is from MP). When we went to Baroda office to pick up the PCC they told us to go Ahmedabad and get it clear. Our SP office in Anand will give us another form to fill and take it AMD office and get it clear. Her interview with US consultate is on this wednesday. This is really getting frustrated. No one is guiding correctly. Looking forward to your quick guidance here..... :)

    1. Hi Pavan, In Baroda you can get PCC by going through Police Commissioner's office as well. The above process that I have mentioned is for Bangalore and Gujarat you don't have to get PCC from PSK. Fast and better way is to get it from police commissioner's office and One my friend got this for her wife recently for Canadian immigration. I hope this helps as you are in hurry to get it and PCC through PSK will atleast take 3-4 days.

    1. Taurus, I don't think you require PCC(police clearance certificate) for reissue of passport because when you apply for new/reissue of passport they do police verification and police verification for passport is included in that process. You need PCC only if you are migrating to some other country or if you are applying for visa/job overseas and the country/commpany have specificaly requested for it. If you want you can still walkin to PSK(without appointment) to inquire about the process and documents needed.

When I renewed my passport i also had to change address and they just need my old passport, new address proof and other documents. But they have never asked for pcc.

      I hope this helps!

actually i need PCC as i have to move abroad after my marriage, but wen i went to PSK dey said PCC cannot be issued on ur previous address, first you have to get ur passport reissued.
My query is that do i have to first apply for reissue of passport with my new address (the one after marriage) and den wen dat is issued i will again have to apply for PCC? or both can be issued at once??
secondly my name and surname has not changed after marriage, so do i have to apply for addition of spouse name as well??
plz plz anyone clear this....dis is very urgent for me.

    Replies
    1. To answer your direct questions:
      a. You asked " my name and surname has not changed after marriage, so do i have to apply for addition of spouse name as well?? " Ans: Your name and surname has nothing to do with addition of spouse name in passport. But it is good to have as that might help you prove your relationship at many places. I would suggest get this done if you have time(remember again, it's not mandatory).

      b. You asked: " both can be issued at once?? " Ans: No, if you want PCC for new address then you have to go for passport of that address first.

I can think of two ways in your situation.

      1. I would suggest if you have some time then please get your passport reissued with adding spouse name and new address and then get your PCC issued for new address. Now a days it takes around 3-4 working days to get passport so you can take two appointments at PSK keeping a week's time and get your passport issued in a week and then go for PCC.

      2. If you are in hurry then do not go for passport reissue and directly go for PCC for the old address. You can get PCC for old address if you have proof of staying at that address. See List of documents required (Checkout http://www.passportindia.gov.in for list of documents.)

      hope this helps.

So i will go with the first option.
Apply for reissue and den PCC

  28. Dear Sunil,
Hello. I have been reading your replies which is such a great information for all of us. I need your help now concerning my issue.

    1. I want to apply for PCC for immigrating to Hungary. I am married in India with my wife who is an Hungarian National. Her name is not endrosed on my passport yet since we got married only on January 17th 2013. So, Is it necessary that I should get my passport reissued with my spouse name on it or its not mandatory? I am suppose to apply for my visa to Hungary within May 15th 2013 so there is no much of time with me. Also, I have the color photocopy of my marriage certificate as the original is in New Delhi for getting apostille.

    2. When my passport was issued I was staying in another address where I do not live anymore now. In the present address I have been living since 4 years and I have my Corp Bank passbook as a proof of address. Is it ok? Can I get my PCC within one months time?

Thank you so much in advance. Please guide me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Acharya, Since you have to apply for your visa before May 15th 2013 you can directly get PCC without your wife's name added(Also, you want PCC for yourself, right? PSK should not be concerned about your spouse name in passport if you just want PCC for yourself.)

You will get PCC for your new address and Bank passbook is considered as your address proof. See PSK website for details about what other address proof documents are accepted.

Remember, You can get PCC for a different address than the one mentioned in passport. (Provided you provide enough proof that you are staying at new address which is different from your passport)

Alos, getting PCC should not take more than 4 days provided you follow-up with local police commisioner's office. Good Luck with your Visa!

It is good and very helpful post.
Do you have any rough idea between the timelines to have the file from one dept to another. 1. Hi, I followed up this when I applied my PCC and TATKAL PASSPORT, ideally it takes 1 working day for each entity(RPO->Commisioner office -> Police station -> Commisioner office -> RPO)and hence we get PCC in 3-5 working days.

While furnishing details at your police station you can ask when they are sending the files back to Commisioner office(I know that in Bangalore it's online and things move fast). You can now go to Commissioner office and inquire and I guess they might suggest you that they have already sent your file to RPO because they don't hold it once they receive response from your local police station.

      Good luck!

    2. Hi Sunil,

Thanks for the reply that was really helpful. My file was held in the local police station itself for 2 weeks. After multiple follow ups finally got the file sent to commissioner office and it is cleared from there as well.
But interestigly I see the application status has a change

Earlier it used to read as " PCC application granted on 17/05/2013. Police Verification has been initiated and a request has been sent to HAL Police Station, Bangalore. After 'Clear' Police Verification Report is received at Regional Passport Office, PCC needs to be collected from the Passport Seva Kendra where you applied. You would receive an email/sms once the PCC is ready for collection."

Now it reads same as above except for change in Date. "PCC application granted on 07/06/2013 " instead of "17/05/2013"

What does this mean? I was planning to visit RPO as mentioned in your post above. But the status has not changed to "PCC application is under review at Passport Seva Kendra".Please suggest what should be done in this case.

  32. Hi Sunil

I've applied for PSK at Coimbatore PSK. I was awaiting for call from local police station. Since it didn't happened, I used my friends father (retired police inspector) to move the file for verification and back to commissioner office.

This happened in a span of weeks time and commissioner's office confirmed that they moved the file on 21-May. After this online status changed to "PCC application is under review at Passport Seva Kendra"

I went to RPO yesterday (26-Feb) and they said me they have not received the clear report from commissioners office. He asked me to write a request letter for re-police verification, but I went to commissioner office to confirm again. I again came back to RPO and person in the inquiry was very arrogant and he still insisted for me give a letter requesting for re-verification.

My friends father (retd. inspector) suggested do not give any letter. Since I didn't know what to do, I gave my file reference to a travel agent and he told me that he has person inside RPO and will get back to me with the actual status of my file.

Any suggestion on this if u hv known about this?

    1. Hi I would suggest you to visit RPO with your application details. Sometimes they have received your verification but they do not process it until you go and tell them (i know how stupid of them! ) So please check with them and then you'lll have further idea.

  35. Hi Sunil;

I had given my passport for reissuing on 23rd (Not tatkal) . The old passport was cancelled and given back to me . There is no change in address The new passport is under processing and for police verification..

Now i also need a PCC for my visa processing.

    1. Can i apply for PCC with my old passport copy or should i wait for the new one to come

    2. As par of issuing new passport police verification is already done. So will it be easier to get a PCC .

    3. For the PCC will the entire process be repeated

any tips on how i can speed up the process ? .

    1. Hi, I hope you are aware that non tatkal passport takes around a month to come back. here are my view to your questions:

      1. I am not quite sure about this. but I would suggest you to go to PSK because the document requirement for PCC is : Old passport in original with self-attested photocopy of its first two and last two pages including ECR/Non-ECR page and page of observation (if any).

      2. For PCC police verification will happen again separately

      3. Yes it will be repeated, but PCC process is quicker than Passport reissue.

Whenever you can please let us know what was the outcome of first question, so other people can also be benefited from your experience. Good luck!

    2. Thanks for all the help and i got my passport and PCC . Now to the answers to the questions i asked.

      1. Yes you need the new passport to apply for PCC
if you are sure you need a PCC along with a new passport dont go for tatkal .

      2. No police verification was not done again . Since passport is issued post verification there was no need to apply for it .

      3. I got the PCC from PSK on the day i got the appointment. Took 1.5 hrs to get in and came out with stamped passport and two copies of the letter.

Thanks and hope info is helpful

  36. Hi Sunil,

If my passport has the same address , from where I am going to get my PCC for, then is it that I would get PCC on the same day from PSK.

  37. Hi Sunil thanks for providing so much information

I had a query, i had to go latvia and i got short term VISA from 1st january. But i will be needing extension of visa and for that i required PCC. I had applied the PCC through supritendent of police in my home town though my address in passport is different than that of passport (address of the institute where i had done my phd). I also plan to go to psk and submit the application. But by the time it will reach the local police station, i will be out of country. So for verification can my family show the already made pcc by superitendent of police of home town and send to psk from where my family can collect it, is it possible

  38. Hi Sunil
I have just applied the application online and submitted it for the PCC. My current address is different from the passport address which I have not put in the application. I already got the ARN number and have a appointment scheduled. Is there any way to modify this application or do i have to go and check at the PSK?

    1. Don't worry, On the day of the appointment you can get your address changed. Just take the address proof with you.

  40. Hi Sunil.. I have a query
My passport was issued from Coimbatore and had address where I no longer stay anymore (my permanent address also falls under same RPO)
I have moved and been working in Chennai for the past 4 years.I have stayed in 3 different address in 4 years and moved to a new address couple of months back . I can provide bonafide letter from my employer & rental agreement as a proof to my current new address.
I need PCC. Should I apply in Chennai or in Coimbatore ( stating that my present address is permanent address and have enough proofs for my permanent address). Please suggest what should I do

    1. Praveen, you can apply for PCC from Chennai. You can show your bank account statement as a address proof. You local police station and RPO will accept bank statement as address proof.

    2. Thanks Sunil but bank statements does not have any address only transaction details. Would rent agreement & bonafide not be enough?

  41. Hi Sunil,

I applied for PCC for Qatar and my PSK interview @ chennai was cleared on Aug 8th and I have submitted the required documents (my passport address was different from current residing address & I have provided current address proof). but still the PCC was sent for police verification. After 10 days, I have visited the police station mentioned already & enquired about the status - they mentioned the document was not yet recived from passport office and asked me to visit after a week's time.
Now, without any police verification, in the passport portal - the status is showing as 'PCC application is under review at Regional Passport Office.' But the status didnot got change for 2 days.
Kindly advise how to proceed here? Do I go to passport office at Chennai & ask for a status update / visit the same PSK office and ask for status?
Kindly clarify - also how without police verification, the status got changed automatically?
    Regards, Magesh

    1. HI Magesh,

I would suggest you to visit your local Regional Passport Office in Chennai. PSK will not have much information as of yet. I went through same situation and after visiting RPO my PCC was sent to PSK.

Please keep us posted when you get your PCC or if you have any further questions.

      Thanks,
      Sunil

1:do i need to schedule appointment for pcc in such an emergency cases
2:if so then will i get a pcc within a day.
    thank you dear

    1. Yes, Generally appointment is mandatory for PCC and without appointment your request for PCC will not be taken. Also, PCC takes minimum 3 days and you have to wait for 3 days to get PCC.

If you can prove to Passport Officer at PSK that your case is really urgent ( medical/ emergency) then you can get your PCC in a day. Also for this you don't need an appointment. Checkout this information from passportindia website "Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit Passport Seva Kendra without appointment. Service will be provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer."

  45. Hi Sunil,
I applied for PCC for Kuwait on 9/9/14 and application was granted at PSK Kollam (Kerala) on 16/9/14. The application status said my application has been granted and verification initiated to SP office. Now its been over a week and no document has reached my local police station. Current status reads " PCC application is under review at Regional Passport Office".

What does this mean? My passport is Kuwait issued. What should i do?

    1. I think you should visit your RPO ( Regional passport office) in Kollam(or Kerela) and inquire about status. They generally hold that for few days but if you visit them then process will speed up.

  47. Hi Sunil,

Do we have to mention the permanent address (which is in passport) in the online pcc application form (to be submitted as psk). I do not stay there any more but my parents live there. For present address proof I am planning to submit the copy of my spouse passport which contains our present address. If I fill permanent address, will they verify that address to before providing pcc??

    thanks in advance

    1. Hi there.... I am in the same situation......
I filed for PCC at PSK Hyderabad on 19th Jan (current address different fr the one printed on passport) ..... police verification completed on 30th Jan........ SInce then the passport sva site says "PCC has been granted on 31/01/2015, police verification has been initiated, you will receive a message or eail to collect the PCC fro PSK ". I have enquired at the Cyberabad commissionrate and they have confirmed that the clear verification report for my casehas been dispatched on 4th Feb. But so far no change i the status......
Surprisingly, the status changed all of a sudden this SAT to "PCc granted on 14/02, police verificaiton has been initiated........"
How can the date change automatically? I smell somethin fishy to cover up their messed SLAs.

Anyways.... what happend to your case? got any updates?

I have been mailing the RPO hyderabad, but hven;t received any reponse.... they never lift the phones..... and the callcentres managed by TCS only tell me what is already available online......

    2. Hey... No updates on my case as yet. I did manage to speak to RPO office. However, they said they have not yet rcd my application and asked me to follow up with PSK Begumpet.

Seriously confused. If commissioners office has dispatched the file 8 days back, wonder where is this struck. And they say its all online now! :(

      Can anyone help here pls?

    3. I went to RPO Hyderabad at 7:30 in the orning, and sat for 5 hours.
Finally at 12:30 there it was......... my PCC printed and stamped.
I raised a concern with the staff on why i didn;t receive any notification or email regarding the same.
As usual they have the same excuse.... " its all online, so we dont know"

U check with the comissioner office and get the case dispatched date.
Then go to RPO and quote teh same. They will have your PCC ready with them.

    4. Guys i am in a similar situation in Hyderabad .PCC applied on 17th Feb from PSK ameerpet , Verification done on 18th next day . A very good enquiry officer . He ensured the application dispatched online as well as hard copy on time from Commisioner office on 23th Feb . I can see online the SNO as well as the file now . Now they say its at RPO office . Do you think i need to to go to RPO office to get it fast tracked..Today its 25th and the message keeps changing .
PCC application has been granted on 17th and then 19th and now 25th
PCC application has been granted on 25/02/2016. Police Verification has been initiated and a request has been sent to Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad City. PCC needs to be collected from the Passport Seva Kendra where the applicant applied after a 'Clear' Police Verification Report is received at the Regional Passport Office. The applicant would receive an e-mail/sms once the PCC is ready for collection.
